Summer is here and that means it’s time to start thinking about vacation plans. Do you already have a family trip planned? What about a weekend getaway with friends? Whether you decide to stay local and visit a nearby beach, or tackle the interstate and visit a new destination in your Nissan, we’ve got some tips to make your trip a success.
Prepare your Nissan. Long trips can put your car to the test. To ensure you have a smooth drive to your final destination, be sure to have your new or used Nissan tuned up for your trip. Have a trained auto mechanic check your tire pressure and tread, complete an oil change and top off all of your vital engine fluids. It’s also not a bad idea to consider having your windshield wiper blades replaced if they are older than a year.
Plan your route ahead of time. If you’re driving across state lines and have hundreds or thousands of miles ahead of you, planning is key. Get together with the group you’re traveling with and map out your trip. Have a plan on how far you’d like to travel each day and whether you have destinations along the way that you’d like to visit. It’s also important to build rest days into your itinerary. This will help to ensure everyone making the journey stays safe and rested along the way. Planning ahead can also help avoid getting lost, which can add unnecessary costs and time to your drive.
Bring extra snacks and water. It’s no secret that gas stations and highway convenience stores are full of junk food and drinks. Start your trip prepared with some protein-rich, healthy snacks and bottled water. Pack a cooler with plenty of ice and when you get hungry, you can reach for a snack that won’t drag you down later in the day.
Have extra entertainment. While road trips are typically exciting, if you’re planning on driving for hours to your destination, it’s smart to bring extra entertainment. If you’re a music enthusiast, be sure to load up your iPod ahead of time, or discover a new radio station along the way. Audio recorded books are a great way to enjoy the scenery along the way while also following the twists and turns of your favorite mystery or sci-fi novel. If you’re traveling with kids, be sure to bring plenty of coloring books and maybe even a portable DVD player for your trip to keep them stimulated.
Pack light and pack right. There is a delicate balance between being prepared and over packing. Think about your final road trip destination and what items you’ll need once you’re there. If you’re camping, be sure to bring the bug spray and gas lantern. If it’s the beach you’ll be enjoying, don’t forget the sunscreen, beach towel and sunglasses. Regardless of where you’re headed, be nimble in what you decide to bring to avoid weighing down your Nissan along the way. The key to packing light is asking yourself what will make you the most comfortable. Odds are if you’re debating whether or not to pack an item, you can do without.
